Berkner Symphony Orchestra Invited to Perform at Midwest!

DSC_0026
The Berkner Symphony Full Orchestra has been invited to perform this December in Chicago at the 70th annual Midwest Conference!!!
This is the first time an Orchestra from RISD has been invited to perform at this conference. Midwest is an International Band and Orchestra conference and is the largest of its kind outside of Texas.
What this means is the members of next year’s Symphony Orchestra (1st period), will combine with select band students in the Fall to prepare an hour long concert to be presented at the conference in Chicago in December.  Only three full orchestras from across the country received an invitation to perform at this conference.
Congratulations to the members of this year’s Symphony Full Orchestra who’s recording of our UIL music was submitted with our application.  They are the one’s who did the work to receive this invitation!
This is going to be an exciting time!  Our auditions in May will determine those who will be members of the orchestra performing at Midwest!  We will have much more information as it becomes available.
It’s a great time be a Ram!

Adopt a Rocket Food Drive

We are collecting food for our Adopt a Rocket Food Drive.  This drive will allow less fortunate families to have a Thanksgiving meal and I want the Orchestra to go big!  We are asking that each section member purchase the following items in what ever quantity you deem acceptable over the weekend and bring these items to school on Monday.  Let’s show the school what we can do and make a difference for these families!

Violin 1 -Stuffing, green beans, corn

Violin 2 – canned yams, marshmallows, potatoes (instant)

Viola – cornbread, gravy

Cello/bass – cranberry sauce, dessert (boxed brownies, etc)
