Important upcoming Orchestra dates:
We need to have a head count of who is attending the banquet by this Friday, May 4. Checks may be made to BAOC and deposited in the orchestra safe.
We also need any media you may have from this school year for our end of year Banquet video. In addition, we need seniors to turn in a baby picture and a current senior picture for our Grand Finale senior recognition. Please email all media to:
Finally, there are still several students who owe program operations fees or instrument rental fees. Please check your Charms account so we can get all accounts up to date before the end of school. Students not making payments will be placed on the hold list.
Below is our Trip Packet for our trip to Corpus trip this week. Please turn in the permission form and Medical release form on Monday.

Midwest Parents and Performers,
We will be dressing in business professional attire for most of our trip to Chicago. Boys will need a sports coat, dress shirt, and slacks. Girls will need a dress, nice blouse and slacks, or a pant suit for the trip. There is no need to go shopping for winter outerwear that may be worn only on this trip! Consider borrowing rather than buying. Overcoats are preferred, but ski jackets are acceptable although they don’t usually fit well over a sport coat. It is recommended that students bring a pair of gloves and an ear band, ski cap, or scarf. When indoors, gentlemen will remove hats and caps.
Business professional attire is required on both travel days, on Wednesday when we are at the McCormick Center in the morning, and at the Chicago Symphony on Thursday evening. Casual clothing may be worn on Tuesday evening for Chicago Style pizza and Wednesday evening for the Hard Rock Cafe and Blue Man Group. Neck ties for boys and dresses for girls are required at the Chicago Symphony Thursday evening.
There are a lot of sales this Thanksgiving week and you might consider checking Thrift stores for great bargains. We are going to look great and represent Berkner High School in the best possible manner.
Thank you all!
Mr. Needham and Mr. Schayot
Midwest Parents and Performers,
The final student cost of the Midwest trip is $600. We have a $200 payment due on October 31 and the final payment is due by November 18 (the Friday before Thanksgiving break). Checks can be made out to BAOC and turned into the Orchestra office. Payments can also be made on Charms through individual band or orchestra accounts.
What do the students get? A lot!!! Included in this trip price are a Chicago style pizza dinner the first night, Hard Rock Cafe the 2nd night, a catered dinner celebration the 3rd night, tickets to the Chicago Symphony, Blue Man Group, the Art Institute of Chicago, the Willis Tower Observation Deck (formerly Sears Tower), all flight costs, hotel costs, ground transportation costs, and breakfast each day at the hotel. Students will need additional money for lunch on two days and optional souvenir shopping.
This trip to Chicago will be a lifetime event for the students in the Berkner Symphony Orchestra!
Please contact Mr. Schayot or Mr. Needham if you have any questions.
This Wednesday, September 21st is our group photo day for the Midwest program. Mr. Hall has excused us from all morning classes this coming Wednesday. Students will return to a normal class schedule starting 5th period. We will bus the students to the Eisemann here in Richardson for the photo shoot. All students will need to bring their concert uniform to school… we will change into concert wear during 1st period. String students may come to school in concert uniforms.
In addition, our next fundraiser towards the Chicago Trip will begin that same day. Brandon is our fundraiser coordinator for Snap! Raise and will be meeting with us around 9:45AM in the orchestra room after we change into concert uniforms.
Snap is an online donation campaign that allows our program to receive donations from our networks and supporters. Snap uses the power of email, text, and social media with a safe, fun and interactive approach. All we ask is that each parent/guardian help their student gather 20 or more email addresses of their biggest fans. Please review the info below to see just how impactful this campaign can be for us.
*Your contacts are strictly private and protected, and never sold or shared.*
Snap Fact Overview:
1. Safe and Protected – Snap! Raise is the safest online donation campaign available. All data is private and never redistributed. Your student’s information on the Snap page is less detailed than what would be on a team website roster.
2. Online donation platform – Reach potential donors via email, social media, and text to ask them to support our program and visit the page, where they can seamlessly donate.
3. Email Strategy – All supporters will receive a receipt for their gift that is tax deductible, included with a personalized thank you from the student. There are three reminder emails sent to donors, with an option to unsubscribe.
4. Network – Snap’s platform and process is what makes their campaigns so successful. It allows an extensive reach across communities by providing options to connect with multiple donors and their social networks, maximizing our raising efforts.
Parents, this fundraiser is going DIRECTLY to lowering the cost per student of the Chicago Trip. All money we raise will bring down the final cost below $600… how much below? That’s up to the student emphasis on this fundraiser!
Each student MUST arrive on Wednesday with their list of 20 QUALITY emails saved into their phone in the “Notes” app. They will then log into the Snap! server and upload the 20 emails directly from their phone… simply copy and pasting from “Notes” to the web server.
